Basing itself on the unique expertise and experience of media regulators in content regulation, the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services (ERGA) has taken the opportunity to contribute to the Commission’s public consultation on the European Democracy Action Plan.
ERGA adopts Work Programme 2021
ERGA has adopted its Work Programme for 2021. It is designed to define the priorities and structure the work of ERGA. In 2021, the main work will be dedicated to the following three topics: (i) Consistent implementation and enforcement of the new AVMSD framework, (ii) Completion of EU regulatory framework relevant for media and (iii) Disinformation.

ERGA publishes report on gender diversity on and off screen
The audiovisual industry is becoming increasingly sensitive to gender diversity. This is one of the findings of the report by ERGA’s Working Group on Gender Diversity. The aim of the working group was to enhance regulators’ and stakeholders’ awareness of initiatives across the EU that are combating discrimination and are actively promoting equality in the audiovisual media industry.

ERGA adopts Report on Disinformation
ERGA has adopted the “ERGA Report on disinformation: Assessment of the implementation of the Code of Practice”.
The report summarises ERGA’s 2019 work – being part of the assistance to the European Commission – of monitoring the implementation of the commitments made by the signatories to the Code of Practice on Disinformation.
ERGA reacts to COVID-19 pandemic
As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ERGA has adopted two documents addressing the impact on the media sector and the measures taken by Member States, regulators and stakeholders:
- Press release, where ERGA underlines the need for measures to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on the media sector and the European Single Market. It further introduces ERGA’s contribution to the issue (see also next document);
- Note to extend the remit of its Subgroup dealing with Disinformation, which will now also gather information on the measures taken by platforms to tackle disinformation related to COVID-19, as well as measures taken by governments and NRAs. Members also decided to create an ERGA Action Group to exchange experiences and information about the crisis’ implications on the economic conditions for the audiovisual media sector in the Member States.

New ERGA Chair (1 August 2018)
On 1 August 2018, Mr Ľuboš Kukliš, Vice-Chair of ERGA from the Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission of Slovakia, has become the interim-Chair for the remainder of 2018. He will also lead the Commission’s Expert Group in 2019.
